How lovely to read all the memories and have shared them with my parents. I was born in Jos Plateau Hospital and lived in Rayfield, Ladi and Bukuru. Sadly I had to come home to ENgland for school at 8 but before that attended 'Prescotts Academy' - I am sure she would be delighted with this accolade. My brother, Alan, was born in Vom and educated in Ladi and Shamrock before coming home to school in Cheltenham.
I do remember my childhood vividly and have good memories and the many people I met. I have recently met up with Joanne Ward who now lives in Italy and a few years ago was in email contact with Fiona MacDuff who now lives in France.
My parents still keep in contact with many people from ATMN - Dad worked for this company for 37 years and retired as General Manager in 1982.
It has been great to review all the comments and look at the pictures on Google Earth - certainly a time waster.
Best wishes to all who read this message.

Thanks, Neil for the comments and pointing out that the link was broken. I removed the GIS data during the riots last year but have replaced it just now with a new version without the more sensitive information. So it's working again.

Firstly, Hallo Pete!

second, Thanks for the link Mike. Could not get it to work though, so just explored on my own....

Was out there between the ages of 1 and 10, returning to UK in 1980.
Attended both Corona and Hillcrest.......

Found our old NESCo house just off Vom road. all built around now!
Found Yelwa club as well, and the old airport (where dad flew his radio controlled planes in between take-offs and landings of the airliners (well, the Fokker Friendships)), and eventually Rayfield golf course.

Can remember all the sports days in the pool at Yelwa prior to the ATMN exodus, when it got a bit quieter.....

Also got a shock at the water levels of Ankwil dam near Kurra Falls, where we all use to go sailing on the catamarans, with BBQ's on the island.
The water levels never got as low as that, with the island being not an island every few years for a few months.....

Good memories though.

What Dr. Umolu and Open Doors are doing is awesome.
I have been scoring the web for a special school for my son in Nigeria and I just can't find any comprehensive school.
May God bless her and every child and family with special needs.

Thanks for the post & inclusion of the comments. I have gained a better insight of Christmas in Nigeria. Even here in the US customs & observances vary a great deal from one part of the city to another, even from one church to another. The significant emphasis is that is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
