Jos — Angry and Divided?

I just spotted a good article about the political/religious situation in Jos. It’s “NIGERIA: Jos voters angry and divided,” by the IRIN news agency of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The elections start this week and Aftermath of Jos riots, 2001Aftermath of Jos riots, 2001there is some potential for problems … we pray not too serious, though Plateau is ranked as one of the areas likely to have unrest. From what I know, the information in the article is pretty accurate and unbiased.

We’ve stocked up on food and supplies in case there is unrest that would keep us from going out. The water board has been on strike for the past week, making life even more difficult for many people (though most are used to not having water from the city) but we’re blessed to have water in our cistern. Saralynn and David still very rarely get water from the pipes.

We were saddened to hear that one of our missionary colleagues (Jim Collins) was killed yesterday in a car accident while returning from Jos to his work station at Biliri 5 hours from here. He had spent many years teaching at the Bible college there in the ’80s, and had just returned last year to continue training young men and women for life and ministry.

Thanks for remembering us (and your other missionary friends!) in your prayers.

We’ll be praying for peace, Dad. Thanks for keeping us informed about medical and political news in Jos. I’m sorry to hear about Jim’s death…

I was just thinking about writing and seeing how the elections went.
I guess it takes a bit longer to elect a president in Nigeria than back here in the states.
Have you seen any polling numbers or heard any results yet?
