Incubators are very important for newborn care, although much of their use can be replaced by kangaroo care. Commercial ones are also expensive and maintain. One alternative is to obtain kits to build your own incubator, or, if you have the ability, to build your own. Another, featured in this article, is to use old, non-functioning commercial incubators and refit them with new temperature controls.
