- Technical excellence with compassion
- Training Africa's doctors for today and tomorrow
- Care for the whole person in the name of Jesus Christ
- Serving people of every race, nationality, and religion
ECWA Evangel Hospital is a 150-bed general hospital located in Jos, Nigeria. Founded by the Sudan Interior Mission (now SIM) in 1959, Evangel is now under the auspices of the Evangelical Churches of West Africa (ECWA).
Our Medical Departments
Our core medical services include surgery, internal medicine,
pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Over the past decade several
new specialized areas have been added:
- Ophthalmology
- Ear, nose, and throat surgery
- Dentistry
- Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) surgery
- HIV care including a counseling center with support services
Medical Education Morning Report
The shortage of qualified African doctors is acute. Besides providing
high quality medical care, Evangel is also active in medical education,
providing several types of training but most notably a nationally
accredited general practice residency program. Other areas of medical
education include:
- General and specialty rotations for Nigerian doctors from other sites
- "Rotations abroad" for medical students and residents from other countries
- Training site for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS)
- Our education programs emphasize not only medical excellence but
whole-person care, an ethos of compassion, and Christian discipleship.
The specialty areas listed above make our training programs even more
attractive.
What We Believe
We embrace the evangelical Protestant faith in one God, humanity
created in the image of God, the spiritual lostness of people, and
reconciliation to God through Jesus Christ. For more details, see What
Do Christians Believe? on this site, the ECWA Statement of Faith, and
the SIM Statement of Faith.
