Anyone who has worked in the paediatric ward will tell you it is one of the most challenging wards to work in here at Jankwano. Hey, children are so adorable. I won't forget one day when we opened the door to a little child's room, admitted the previous day for febrile convulsions. He just shouted as soon as he saw us, "I want to go home!" He said it with all the joy and enthusiasm he could express. I loved him at that moment ... I could almost thank him for getting well.
It's not all smiles, the ICU and the SCBU are enough challenge for the poor nurse who has to ensure that hourly vital signs are done and that the little preemies get their meal ... and on time!
Many times when care is not administered as it should, it's only because it was not possible meet all the needs without more nurses. When I look at those tiny cute faces, I can't help but be overwhelmed with emotion: we should give much more care, let's give them more nurses who will take care of them as they deserve.
Thumbs up for all the nurses who most times when overwhelmed by the demands of these sweet ones still go about their duties with the determination to give in their best. -- Dr Kenneth |
