Dr Doug Watson The pediatric HIV/AIDS program at Evangel has doubled the number of children on treatment with antiretroviral drugs in the past three months, since beginning a new program funded by the US PEPFAR program, with over 40 patients now getting the lifesaving drugs at no cost. PEPFAR has not only funded the drugs and services such as lab improvements, but has helped train our staff.
Over the past two days Dr Doug Watson of the University of Maryland Medical Center conducted onsite training and consultation in pediatric HIV topics including management of combined TB/HIV in children, latest issues and advances in prevention of mother-to-child transmission, pathways of drug resistance, and managing adherence problems and various types of treatment failure. We appreciate exchanges like this that help us pursue excellence in our program.
