A recent review of research on the usefulness of eye patching for minor corneal abrasions concludes that patients did better without eye patching during the first 24 hours, and that beyond that time there was no evidence for patching or not patching. The patients without patched eyes also received more antibiotic and/or cycloplegic eye drops, which might partly explain why patients without patching had lower complication rates and less pain.
