Dr. Sunday Lengman, medical director of Evangel Hospital, has just returned from the 2006 World Congress of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the meeting, Dr. Lengman presented a research paper on the relationship between delivery and obstetric fistula, and its implication for subsequent mote of delivery. The results of the research suggest that delivery by caesarean section is not always required after a woman has had the repair of a vesicovaginal fistula (VVF). VVF is a serious and common problem in West Africa, and these results are potentially good news for many of these women who want to have babies in the future.
