We recently received the following report from Dr. Paul Odumu, one of our family practice residents, describing the mission trip he organized and took over the three-day Easter holiday. A great example of partnership, not only in that Paul has trained at Evangel, but in terms of all those who helped make this outreach a success. -- editor

We left Jos on 6th April 2007 at noon and arrived at Aobida-Ugbokolo at 9:00 pm. We were exhausted, so rested in my family house in the village with our two children.

The medical team included

• myself (Dr. Paul Odumu),
• my wife (Mrs. Odumu Ngufan, a nurse midwife and HIV counseling supervisor),
• medical staff of the village government clinic, and
• two disciples, George Odumu and Sister Kate Ejembi who acted as counselors.

Day 1: Saturday, April 7

I had two clinic sessions and saw 95 patients. Two were admitted and one baby delivered. Total counseled/saved: 15.

Day 2: Easter Sunday

I had one clinic session, 3:00 to 9:00 pm. We treated 59 patients, and my wife gave a talk on HIV, distributing pamphlets. We counseled 10 patients.

Day 3: Easter Monday

We had one clinic session from 8:00 am to noon, seeing 22 patients.

Miracle of Provision

We were given a total of 40,500 naira ($316) from: the Evangel medical director; Prophet Isa El-Buba; the pastor in charge of CRM Zaramaganda; Chief Pharmacist of Ugoka Pharmacy, Jos; Dr. Truxton; and George Odumu.

We received antimalarial drugs, antibiotics, other drugs, clothes, Bibles, pamphlets on HIV/AIDS, shoes, and packs for minor surgeries from; Oculus Pharmacy; Dr. Blyth; Dr. Truxton; Jean Garland; Sister Kate Ejembi; the Odumus; and Evangel Hospital.

The medicines we did not use were donated to the government village clinic staff to help the villagers.

Testimonies

• The Lord delivered us from what would have been two ghastly accidents, to and fro.
• Some women confessed, “We have not seen this kind of Jesus love here before … do send your team to come teach us Bible in the evenings.” Others commented, “We like this kind of gospel; they cure our sicknesses and teach us the word of God.”
• The village chief and elders of Aobida sent a crate of soft drink and snacks to entertain us
• The Rev. Father in charge of the Catholic Church, Aokpe openly thanked the medical team and brethren who sent in the welfare package to the land, saying “it is a welcome development.” This was in church during the mass.
• The Lord enabled us to minister to our own immediate families medically, materially and spritually. Two members of our family were saved, delivered, and will be disciples — to God’s glory!

The gospel truth is best spoken in love (Eph. 4:15): men will see and touch this love and embrace the truth that sets them free. A giving gospel is a winning gospel anywhere. Such was this medical mission; it will enlarge and consume the land for Jesus.

The land is opened up by this amazing demonstration of Jesus’ love. Pray that come December 2007, when we invade the church with the yearly crusade, Jesus will be enthroned in the hearts of all men.
